I am a young man of 37. I see myself as strong enough to endure the toughest of demanding tasks. However, one problem that I kept struggling with over the years is that of back pain. It started as back pain lower right side, and it could be so persistent that even during the nights at times, I would wake up with pain everywhere in my back.
At first, I thought that I was working too hard since my job was to lift up bags of sugar and calcium at the factory 6 days a week. So I started taking medications aspirin and paracetamol, to ease the pain.

I thought I was free, when after 2 weeks, there was surprising relief for me. All that time, my work went on fine, until the pain woke me up again one night. I was taken aback, since there was no sign of
pain or fatigue the previous day.
Little did I realize that the pain would stay with me for a longer period. I began to depend more and more on the drugs, even though they were no longer working to ease the pain.
Later, I started taking
exercise lessons in a bid to make make bones stronger. It was reasonable for me to rationalize that the pain could simply be the result of weak bones. To my surprise, the weekly exercise program did little to ease off my discomfort.
When I decided to see a doctor, one of the first things he told me was that probably, it was my body’s way of reacting to the type of work that I do. This made me determine to change my job if the slightest opportunity came by. The doctor put me on medication and told me to stop the previous pills I was using to quell the back pain. Among the things he recommended was a proper way to sit.
I began consciously rearranging my torso anytime I sat down. It did not matter to me where I sat. I also determined to correct the habit
through exercise, straightening up and bending till the tip of my fingers touched my toes, while my legs were kept straight.

Gradually, I noticed that my back pain began to ease. Therefore, I made efforts to keep sitting correctly and holding my body aright. I discovered that what was needed was gracefulness. Once I was able to make adjustments, life became easier.
While it has been 2 years since that persistent
back pain struck, I have succeeded in keeping my job and yet live a pain-free life till now, due to heeding the advice of the doctor.
